Addiction Physician/Medical Director

M. Khaled, MD, CCFP
Dr. Khaled is the Medical Director at NEWORLD Medical Detox. He leads the medical team and prescribes medication for clients to manage their withdrawal symptoms and detox professionally and safely. He has been in family practice for over 25 years. He has a wealth of experience in both the management of chronic pain and opioid dependency treatment.  He graduated from the University of Toronto 1988 and is a certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He has also completed extra training and earned his Opioid Dependency Treatment Certificate from the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).  He is a member of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the Canadian Pain Society.  He is licensed to prescribe methadone.

Dr. Khaled has been an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University School of Medicine for many years.  He is actively involved in many aspects of the medical school including teaching medical students, interns and residents. 

He is also the medical director of the Refuge Clinic in Hamilton and leads a team of dedicated and skilled physicians, nurses and allied health professionals in providing free medical care to refugees and newcomers.

Shelley Kennedy-Johnston, BScN, PHC-NP

Mrs. Kennedy-Johnston started her career as a Critical Care Nurse in Intensive Care Unit. She then expanded her career into patient education as a Registered Nurse Educator with a focus on patient-health provider therapeutic relationships. Mrs. Kennedy-Johnston completed the Canadian Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program. She was the lead clinician in a Chronic Pain Management program which included the management of opioid dependency treatment. Mrs. Kennedy-Johnston has further expanded her extensive knowledge of opioids, alcohol and other addictive substances and provides exemplary evidence based non-pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical addiction treatment that ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Mrs. Kennedy-Johnston is a certified member of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine.

M. Enara, Ph.D., CACII
Mr. Enara holds a Ph.D. degree in clinical toxicology. He is a certified addiction counselor approved by the Canadian Council of Professional Certification. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine and he also holds a certificate in addiction counseling from Online Counseling College of Alberta.

Mr. T. Mansour
Mr. Mansour is NEWORLD General Manager. He spent more than 25 years in multinational corporations both in the Finance function and in General Management.  Mr. Mansour was the Chief Financial Officer of a large multinational corporation and was also the General Manager leading large businesses in the consumer goods categories.

Addiction Counselor


Sandra has been engaged in the field of addiction services for the last 30 years. She is formally trained in Addiction Counselling with a diploma from McMaster University. Over the years, she has made it a priority to maintain on-going training in order to provide her clients with the most relevant information and effective treatment. Aside from formal training, Sandra also has a great amount of practical and lived experience in addictions. She is interested in a harm reduction approach that revolves around the client’s experiences and needs. Yoga Instructor


Julie is a certified Yoga instructor who graduated with highest honors from the Sheridan College teacher training program in 2012. Julie specializes in Hatha Yoga and developed her company in 2016 to pursue her passion of working privately with vulnerable individuals such as those recovering from traumatic experiences or addictions, motor vehicle accidents, anxiety and depression sufferers and seniors. As a registered instructor with the Yoga Alliance, Julie is committed to continuing her education and knowledge of yoga and meditation and is currently working toward a certification in guided meditation masters level 3.
